The Pune Municipal Corporation visited SCMS Pune on 7th Dec'2016 to educate students about the importance of a girl child and to abolish stigmas associated with gender based decisions. The speakers were Dr. Sushilkumar Pundge, A Medical officer for PMC, Mr. P K Kohakade and Mr. B S Magadum, both food inspectors. The number of people attending the event was close to around 60 students.
To ensure that every person was aware of the severity of the situation, a variety of statistics were shared to illustrate the graveness of the situation and the urgent need for gender equality.
They focused on equalizing the gender ratio and the reason behind the ban placed on gender determination during pregnancy. While talking about these aspects, they also shared success stories of women including PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, elaborating on them as examples for young girls and role models for all genders. Brochures were passed around through the audience to give them a clearer view of what the PMC are doing in this respect and how they can help.
